3) Engines must be vertical shaft types, unless horizontal shaft type engine was offered in that mower. For modifications allowed see class rules.
4) Mower must retain lawnmower type suspension, drive train, and wheelbase axle to axle with the exception that front axle may be moved to front of unaltered mower frame. Mowers must have a minimum wheelbase of 34”, and a maximum wheelbase of 51”. Front axles may be fabricated, and kart components may be used.

6) Outlaw class mowers may strengthen, and modify, frames to allow for engine, and drive train mounting and fit.
7) All racers must display their racing numbers in a manner that is visible to scorekeepers from all sides. If we cannot see your numbers you may not be scored correctly. If you are racing a mower other than your own you must get prior approval from a NASGRASS official.

Flag Rules

Green Flag: The green flag indicates the start, or restart, of a race.
Yellow Flag: The yellow flag indicates there is a potentially hazardous situation on the racing surface. A Full Course Caution is for an accident or incident involving one or more mowers. Full Course cautions require all racers to slow down, maintain their relative positions as of the last completed green flag lap, and maintain a cautious speed. Watch the main flag person for a determination. If the yellow flag is displayed during the first lap, there will be a complete restart.
Red Flag: The red flag requires all mowers to stop as soon as possible in a safe manner, and pull their tether/kill switch to stop engine due to an unsafe condition. If the red flag is displayed during the first lap, there will be a complete restart. The flagmen at turns two, and three, will also have red flags. The main flagman will have an air horn in addition to the red flag to alert all racers, and flagmen of the red flag being thrown. All racers must stay with their mower, and no repairs may be made during the red flag period.
Black Flag: The black flag indicates an unsafe mower, or driver. A furled black flag is used as a warning for unsafe driving, an open black flag is for an unsafe mower, or continued unsafe driving, and you must have a chat with the flagman. Failure to comply with the black flag requirement will result in disqualification.
Passing Flag: (Blue with diagonal yellow stripe) This is an advisory flag which indicates that a faster mower, or mowers, is overtaking your mower. You must move from the racing line(s) to allow the faster mowers a safe pass.
Half-Way: is designated by the flagman holding the green and white flags in X shape as you complete the half-way point of the race.
Two (2) laps to go: Is designated by the flagman holding the green and white in both hands in upright position designating two (2) laps to go in the race.
White Flag: The white flag indicates the final lap of the race.
Checkered Flag: The checkered flag indicates the completion of the race.

Racing Rules

Signup will start 2 hours before start time for first race. Drivers meeting will be held ½ hour before start time for first race. ALL drivers MUST attend the drivers meeting, lineup positions, and class order will be given at this time. Anyone arriving late to, or missing, the drivers meeting will line up at the back of the field (scratch). Tech inspection will open as early as possible, and be announced when it opens.

NO engines running, talking, or music playing during the National Anthem.

If you are racing a mower other than your own, you must get prior approval from a NASGRASS official, and inform the scorers of the mower number you will be racing.

In order that the Pit Boss can control, and provide safe entrance to, and exit from, the pit area it is mandatory that you enter and exit the track at the designated area.

All drivers must line their mowers up in the proper order in the designated Staging Area when the class prior to theirs goes out on the track. It is the drivers’ responsibility to know their proper position. The Pit Boss will post the line-ups on the Pit Board prior to the first race of the event. Failure to be in line in the Staging Area prior to the parade lap will result in the mower staring at the rear (scratch).

Starting line-up at the Heat race at the first point’s race of the season will be determined by random draw of a numbered ball, or “pill”, after this initial line-up the following races Heat race will be line up by points. After this first points race the line-up for the next race will be determined. The line-up will be inverted, with the higher point’s mowers lining up in the rear, and the lower point’s mowers lining up in the front for the Heat races. The line-ups for the Heat Finals will be determined by finishing order in the Heat races. Any new mower, or any mower that has missed two (2) events, will be lined-up at the rear of the field, and can use accumulated points at the next event.

Any racer jumping the start, improving their track position, prior to crossing the Start/Finish line when the Green Flag is thrown will be penalized at the first Caution. In the event the penalty cannot be assessed before the end of the race, the penalty will be assessed in the Finishing Order.

In the event of a Caution, Yellow Flag, mowers will NOT race back to the flag, caution laps are not counted in scoring.

Any Driver that brings out the Caution, or Red, Flag(s) three (3) times during a race (i. e.: 2-Yellow + 1-Red = 3) with an unassisted spin, or other problems, will be disqualified from that race. Any drivers that bring out a Caution, and cannot refire, will be lined up scratch.

When a Caution comes out all mowers that have made a complete stop must go to the rear. If you can keep moving, and you were not the mower to bring out the Caution, or involved in the incident you will keep your spot. The officials’ decision is final … No Discussion!

Rough driving, whether intentional or not, will not be tolerated. Penalties will be imposed at the discretion of the NASGRASS officials’ based on the severity of the infraction.

Un-sportsman like conduct, or obvious intentional interference, with other drivers, or track markers may result in a Black Flag to pull off the track. You must have a chat with the flagman. Loss of points, or awards, for the day, and suspension may occur.

If you repeatedly knock over cones, you may have to wear one on your head the rest of the day.

Lapped drivers must not hold up, or block, advancing drivers. If a driver has advanced, and gets even alongside you going into a turn (inside), you must give them enough room to make the turn, and not pinch them into the cones. The obvious intent of this rule is to have safe, fun, and fair races for all participants.

Points and Scoring

Points system: Points will be awarded for all finishing positions starting with 100 points for the winner, and drop in 5 point increments down to last place with a minimum of 5 points being awarded. 1st place will be given 100 points, 2nd place will be given 95 points, 3rd place will be given 90 points, etc.

A “Season Points Champion” will be named in each class, with each race points accumulating for this award. The “Overall NASGRASS Points Championship” will be determined by the accumulation of points in the Heats, Heat Finals, and 30 Lap Enduro.

Protest Procedure

Any racers may file a written protest to NASGRASS officials for consideration. However, excessive sniveling may lead to immediate grass balling. The NASGRASS staff will make the final decision. If the protest is made, and no infraction or offence is found, the protester may face a sportsmanship penalty. The same will apply the protested mower if violations are found. The protesting mower must have finished behind the protested mower, and will be required to “show” his/her mower along with the mower being protested. The protested mower will have five (5) minutes to protest the protesting mower.

Protest must be made within five (5) minutes of the completion of the race that the protested, and protesting, mowers competed in. The mower owner, or driver, may make a protest for their respective race.

NASGRASS reserves the right to inspect any mower during the event.

Protest Fees

Compression Test = …………………………………………$20.00
Head, and Intake removal = …………………………………$50.00
Complete engine tear down = ………………………………$100.00
(Above items pertain to Stock, and Super Stock, Only!)
Single Item (Suspension, tires, etc.) = ………………………$20.00

· 10% of protest fee is retained by NASGRASS

· Remainder of fee will go to winner of protest.

NASGRASS hopes that everyone abides by the rules; races clean, and have fun doing it so that protests will not be needed.

ALL protests will be directed to the Race Steward/Race Director.
